Clonbony Abu 0-05
Cu Chulainn Crew0-02
Davey Rynne Reporting
On another fine evening in Ian Galloway Park, Clonbony Abu again showed their ability.
Tonight they had to take the field twice in what would prove to be a pivotal night in their aim of making the Semi-Finals.
Coming into tonight, they were in Second place and maintaining that position would secure their safe passage to the play-offs.
In their first game of the night against the ever improving Cu Chulainn Crew, it was the doggedness of the Clonbony players that saw them home by a whisker. A slow start by the team left them at 2 points apiece at half time, but with the introduction of Sam Chapman on for Penny Chapman who suffered a sprained anlke that changed the mood of the game. The Clonbony lads strengthened their resolve and pulled away for a 3 point win.
The clonbony defence was again rock like with veteran Cross outstanding at full back and well aided by fantastic performances by dave Gilbert and Siobhan Cotter beside him.
In the middle of the park, Pete Peilua and Adam Greenfield again pulled the strings aided by sterling performances from the Chapman sisters.
In attack the combination of the speed and determination of Aislinn "The Gooch" Ryan and the free taking ability of Scot Maclean saw the Clonbony Abu's home.
Davey Rynne Reporting
The Final match of the tournament was a straight shootout for the last semi final spot on offer, with Clonbony Abu sitting 4 points clear of T-Shirt time at the start of the match, they knew that a narrow defeat would still see them home on points differential.
However thats not the motto of these brave bunch of lads and lassies. With the T-Shirt time team missing a number of players, Clonbony very charitably lent them Becs Cathro and Siobhan Cotter who had been outstanding all season, and its fair to say the T-Shirt time management approached Clonbony Abu after the game trying to sign the 2 players for next season but they were soon cleared.
Back to the game and Clonbony had all the possession in the first few minutes and were 4 points up in no time at all. However T-Shirt time raided the Clonbony defence for 2 quickfire goals past a bemused Davey Rynne in goals, Davey was clearly suffering the after effects of his stag weekend.
At half time, Clonbony Abu were a point down but still on their way to the play-offs. A rousing speech from the Grinder Mcnamara raised the spirits and a much improve performance in the second half resulted.
The Grinder himself scored 2 more goals to set the team on the way to victory and despite some last pressure from T-Shirt time Davey Rynne got himself back on form with 2 point blank saves to ensure Clonbony Abu finished the night with 2 wins from two and second place on the table.
This Sunday, they'll be playing the Might of Kelly's Knights but will be without a host of players. Getting this rookie team to the semi finals is a huge achievement, Another big task awaits on Sunday.
